Bandcamp Codes

Add Bandcamp download codes to a promo campaign, and each recipient can claim a free copy of your release on Bandcamp when they download your music.

How it works

When a recipient downloads from your promo page, Promoly asks if they'd like the release added to their Bandcamp collection.

  • Add & Download gives them one of your available codes and opens Bandcamp with the code filled in. The release goes into their Bandcamp collection, where they can stream it and download it.
  • Just download gives them the regular download from Promoly. No code is used, and they're asked again the next time they download.

Each code goes to one recipient, so two people never get the same code. Once a recipient has a code, they aren't asked again. Recipients you share a secret link with can claim a code too.

Bandcamp codes work on promo campaigns.

Getting codes from Bandcamp

Bandcamp calls these track/album codes. You might also see them called download codes.

  1. Open your Bandcamp Tools page and go to Track/album codes.
  2. Pick the release from the drop-down and give the batch a name.
  3. Enter how many codes you need. Bandcamp creates them in multiples of 100.
  4. Click export next to the batch. The codes download as a .csv file.

Open the file in a spreadsheet app and copy the column of codes. You'll paste them into Promoly next.

Adding codes to a campaign

  1. Open the promo campaign in the campaign editor.
  2. Under Release Content, click Add Bandcamp Codes. Once the campaign has codes, the button says Manage Bandcamp Codes.
  3. Click Add codes.
  4. Paste your codes, one per line, or import a .txt file. Each code looks like abcd-1234, and you can add up to 5,000 at a time.
  5. Click Review codes. Promoly checks the format and flags duplicates.
  6. Tick the box to confirm the codes are for this release, then click Add.

Invalid entries and codes already on the campaign are skipped. Adding codes never removes the ones you already have.

Note: Promoly can't tell which release a code belongs to. Bandcamp decides that, so check you're adding codes made for this release.

Turning code offers on or off

Each campaign has its own setting. Use Enable Bandcamp Codes under Options in the campaign editor, or the Offer codes to recipients switch in Manage Bandcamp Codes. Both change the same setting, and the change saves straight away.

While offers are paused, recipients get the regular download and aren't offered a code. Your codes stay on the campaign until you turn offers back on.

Starting new campaigns with code offers off

New campaigns start with code offers on. To change that for your account:

  1. Open any promo campaign in the campaign editor.
  2. Click Add Bandcamp Codes or Manage Bandcamp Codes.
  3. Turn off Offer codes in new campaigns.

From then on, new campaigns start with code offers paused, and so do campaigns you duplicate. The setting covers every new campaign on your account, including ones your team members create. Campaigns you already have keep their own setting, and you can turn it back on from the same place.

Managing your codes

Manage Bandcamp Codes shows how many codes are available, how many are assigned to recipients, and the total. You can search by code or recipient, filter by status, and remove or transfer codes nobody has been given yet. For the details, see How do I manage Bandcamp codes on a campaign?

"Assigned" means a recipient was given the code. Promoly can't see whether they redeemed it on Bandcamp.

How many codes should I add?

Add at least one code for every recipient you plan to send to. If you're sending to 200 people, add 200 codes or more. You can add more at any time, and Manage Bandcamp Codes warns you when fewer than 10 are left.

Note: When a campaign runs out of codes, recipients get the regular download and aren't offered a Bandcamp copy. Everything else on your promo works as normal.
